Aboul-Fadl's critics against the misogynic hadis. Basically, Aboul-Fadl uses common tools of critique ofHadis, namely the critique of chain of transmission (sanad) and text {matn), except that he insist the need to explore the historical fact. For him, hadis has to have unavoidable criteria, such as honesty, diligence, comprehensiveness, reasonableness, and self-restrain. These criteria are applied in ( 1) criticizing the text; (2) criticizing the chain of transmission; (3) considering the historical context; (4) considering the moral and social consequences. In addition, Aboul-Fadl tends to reject the hadis as it is problematic. In terms of the text, the hadis is not in line with the Islamic morality, the Qur'anic conception of equality, and other hadis of the Prophet's treatments towards his wives.
