%T LIVING AL-QUR'AN DALAM MASYARAKAT JAWA(Telaah Atas Serat Centhini)
%X This paper describes the Qur'anic tradition among the Javanese as
described in the Serat Centini (a traditionally Javanese literature work).
It is portrayed that the Javanese has interacted with Qur'an and treated
the Qur'an in various ways. Serat Centini, written at about 2 centuries
ago, exposes the way of Javanese behaving towards the Qur'an. Among
the treatments are learning to recite the Qur'an; reciting the Qur'an in
group as they called it ngaji (reciting) and kataman (completing reciting
the whole text of the Qur'an); interpreting the Qur'an; reciting the Qur'an
in Shalat; healing process; or even initiating sexual intercourse. The
description left a room for the next generation to have the Qur'an as the
guidance for the daily life.
