description: The objectives of this research were to describe the preservation activity of Javanese  classic words and Javanese-Arabic (Arab Pegon) in Balai Pelestarian Nilai Budaya  (BPNB) of Yogyakarta’s library. This thesis described about the implementation of the  preservation activity preventively and curatively, the role of librarian in activities of the  manuscripts preservation, and also the problem and the solutions of the manuscripts  preservation activity. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative  method. This research used several of data collecting techniques; they were observation,  interview and documentation. In order to get the valid data, the data was analyzed used  Miles and Huberman models through three phases; those were data reducing, data serving  and elaborating. The credibility test of the data used observations extending test,  triangulation source technique and triangulation technique. The result of this research was  the preservation activity of manuscripts in Balai Pelestarian Nilai Budaya (BPNB) of  Yogyakarta’s library included (1) the preservation policy and the preservation activity  curatively did the fumigation, digitalization, translation and manual cleaning. Meanwhile,  the preservation preventively did; camphor-placing, cover boxing, and temperature and  humidity adjusting. (2) The role of librarian in activities of the manuscripts preservation  in collaboration with the third parties. (3) The problems that were faced of the  preservation activity were lack of financial source, human resource, and facilities.  Researcher suggest that need to increase the financial source in order to the preservation  of manuscripts can run optimally, need to add human resoucers who’s expert in the  library science and be able to examine the manuscripts, and need to increase the facilities  to support the manuscripts preservation activities in Balai Pelestarian Nilai Budaya  (BPNB) of Yogyakarta’s library.
