Clothing is one form of nonverbal communication. Clothing can communicate information about the wearer's self, including self-image. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected using observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. To check the validity of data, the reseacher used triangulation of an expert of fashion. This research’s data was obtained through interviews with informants from students majoring in Communication Sciences at the Faculty of Social and Humanities, Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University of Yogyakarta. This research tried to compare between the dimension of self-image of students who wear casual clothes with students who wear formal clothing to campus. In connection with emotion, the emotion shown by casual clothes conveys the emotions of a juvenile while formal attire shows the emotion of an adult. Associated with behavior, informants who wearing casual clothes show a more relaxed and free behavior compared to those using formal clothes that will be more careful in behaving. Associated with differentiation, informants wearing casual clothes as well as formal attire is to make an personal identity.
