This research examines about utterances uses by Chappie in Chappie movie. Chappie is a movie directed by Neill Blomkamp which is released in 2015. It tells about American science fiction comedy. This research aims to describe: (1) the following maxim uses by Chappie and (2) the breaching maxim uses by Chappie in the conversation of the movie. The basic theory in this research is cooperative principle by Grice that divide into four maxims. This research uses descriptive method, accumulates the data to analyze the problems that are examined. Another method is qualitative, researcher as the main device. Data accumulation are obtained by analyzing the script of the movie. The result of the analysis concludes, there are 69 of Chappie’s utterances that relate with cooperative principle; 29 utterances follow the quantity maxim, 27 utterances follow the quality maxim, 49 utterances follow the relation maxim, and 61 utterances follow the manner maxim. On the other hand, there are 35 Chappie’s utterances that breach the maxims; 23 utterances of quantity maxim, 2 utterances of quality maxim, 9 utterances of relation maxim, and 1 utterance of manner maxim.
