This research aims to find out: (1) The Effect of metacognition strategies to student?s reasoning skill of class X SMA Negeri 1 Pabedilan on the material of temperature and heat (2) Increased the student?s reasoning skill with learning metacognition strategies of class X SMA Negeri 1 Pabedilan on the material of temperature and heat. The research is a quasi-experimental research (quasi experiment) with pretest-posttest control group design. The variables in this research included independent variable of metacognition strategy and dependent variable of student?s reasoning skill. The population in this research are all students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Pabedilan academic year 2016/2017. Sampling this research is class X.3 as an experimental class and class X.2 as the control class. Data collection techniques that used are test and non-test techniques. The research instrument that used are a pretest-posttest student?s reasoning skill question sheet. Data analysis technique that used is statistical parametric and non parametric of t test, Mann Whitney test, and normalized gain (N-Gain) test. The result shows that: (1) Metacognition strategies have an effect on student?s reasoning skill on the material of temperature and heat based on result of t test show level of significance calculation (sig. 2-tailed) is 0,0002 and level of significance ({\ensuremath{\alpha}}) 0,05. Then according to criteria of decision making hypothesis test; Ha is received and Ho is rejected), (2) Metacognition strategies can improve student?s reasoning skill on the material of temperature and heat with N-Gain experiment class = 0.40 (medium) greater than N-Gain control class = 0.26 (low).} }
