abstract: The conflict of Kendeng establishment of a cement factory in the district of
Pati and Rembang, Central Java so attracted the attention of the mass media. In
fact, every time there is a conflict, the media still did not provide a whole of
information and take side towards one of the parties. This is deviated with people
need for get an objective news to see the root of the problem as a whole and what
actually happened. Pros and cons of society in addressing the conflict can not be
separated from the role of mass media in shaping and construct. No exception of
online news media that has character and excellence far exceeds the conventional
media (print and electronic) in the context of speed that can be accessed by users
anywhere and anytime.
Therefore, this research attempts to uncover the construction of online news
media Kompas.com and Suaramerdeka.com in defining reality conflict Kendeng
cement plant during February 24th until March 25th, 2017. The method used
framing analysis of Robert M. Entman models.
Based on this research, it is found that in the reporting of these two online
media, it seems tend to be balanced and have not yet identified where the
direction of the reporting on ‘define problems’ and ‘diagnoses causes’ elements,
but in the ‘make moral judgment’ and ‘treatment recommendation’ elements,
these two online media clearly known where the direction of their news.
Kompas.com looks take sides of the counter cement factory establishment and
Suaramerdeka.com on the contrary, seems to side with the pro cement factory.
