abstract: Discourses on education have been widely discussed in various books, journals, and discussed in the scientific training. Because all can not be separated from education. Digging and reviewing education studies in the Qur'an is one form of business in promoting the world of education itself. because, essentially, the Qur'an is an endless source of knowledge.
If we look at the division of existing education, education is divided into three parts. Informal education (Family / Parenting), formal (School) and non formal (Non-school). Some educational experts claim that informal education becomes the main foundation as a starting point for a learner. Informal education (Family) is described as the main foundation of a building.
Given the importance of a family education, it is necessary to investigate and examine more indepth discussions about family education (informal). In the writing of this paper will be discussed about single parent family education is examined in the Tafsir Al-Qur'anil 'Adzim works of scholars' Al-Imam Al-Hafidz Ibnu Katsir.
The object to be studied in this tafseer is the single parent family education model Hajar with Isma'il. Hajar is a figure who equally raises his son alone. Parents who are raising their children alone are the so-called single parent parents.
This research is library research (Ribrary Research). With Tahlily and Mawdhu'i's interpretation approach. Data source in this research is divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source consists of Tafsir Al-Qur'anul 'Adzim by Al-Imam Ibnu Katsir and other exegetical books as a comparison and complementary references from the main interpretation. Secondary data supporting this research are Hadist (Kitab, Musnad, Kitabus Sunan), books, journals, magazines, articles, newspapers, or freelance articles related to the topic and discussion in this paper.
The result of descriptive analysis of this writing is; First, that Hajar can be mentioned in the classification of Single Parent educators in the Qur'an. Both education applied in the Hajar family are closely related to the parenting pattern and the applied Parenting education. Third, in conveying the concept of education, the Qur'an provides a more consecutive picture. Starting from Uswatun Hasanah, Wisdom, then Mau'dzoh Hasanah, and Tajadul Bil Ahsan. Fourth, the concept of Parenting Education and Single Parent education in Tafsir Ibnu Katsir more guided by revelation and belief from Allah SWT.
