%X The reporting of criminal cases involving women, both as  perpetrators and victims, often derailed from neglecting the journalistic  code of ethics. The news does not only contain facts concerning  criminal matters, but is also affixed with gender bias stereotypes from  patriarchal ideologies that harm women. In August 2018, cases of child  violence committed by a stepmother in Surabaya rose to the public.  Jawa Pos Surabaya made this case as Metropolis headline for two  weeks. This research is entitled "Discourse Analysis Reporting Cases  of Child Abuse by Stepmothers in Jawa Pos Newspaper". The research  aims to determine the construction of women's discourse and the  positioning of women in the presence of patriarchal ideology and  ideology of equality.  This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data analysis  used was a Sara Mills discourse analysis to reveal the representation of  women suspected of child abuse in the news text. The data collection  technique used is the study of the primary data documentary in the  form of news of child abuse in the August-September 2018 edition of  the Jawa Pos newspaper in nine news items.  From the results of the study, the researchers found that Jawa  Pos positioned the step mom as objects and constructed her as number  two creatures after men who did not have the authority to determine  their own destiny. Jawa Pos also labeled women suspected of child  molestation as a symbol of bad and materialistic women. In this way,  Jawa Pos treats the gender relations inequality and positioned women  in patriarchal ideology.
