The Head of Madrasa as a leader in the educational unit environment has to be able to realize the purposes which have been set. Leadership in the educational unit environment always involves the effort of a Head of Madrasa to influence the behavior of the disciple/teacher in a situation. In order for the Head of Madrasa to be able to perform his leadership function, has to have the authority and ability to use that authority on the teachers to obtain good performance of the teachers. The purpose of this research is to describe about the formulation of the Madrasa’s vision and mission and how is the leadership of the Head of Madrasa in realizing the vision and mission of MI Muhammadiyah Selo Kulon Progo. This research is a field research which is qualitative descriptive in nature. The data gathering technique uses methods of interview, observation, and documentation. A process in which the leader is being pictured as going to give out orders or influence, guidance or process of influencing other people’s work in choosing and achieving the determined purpose. Vision implies that success in the future is very much dependent on a person’s ability, whoever that is, in viewing the environment thoroughly because the factors within the environment are very much determining the success in reaching the future. Mission is the description in the form of formulation on roles, obligations, and action plans that become a direction attaining vision. The result of the research shows that first, the formulation of vision and mission of MI Muhammadiyah Selo Kokap Kulon Progo is performed by the Head of Madrasa through management of curriculum and teaching, development of study teaching material, time allocation, monitoring the students’ learning progress, making quality-based planning on the Madrasa, utilizing all of the madrasa component in doing quality program, performing managerial control in the performance quality control, making self-evaluation, and doing improvement on ongoing basis.
