abstract: Today there are many conflicts with religious background caused by the failure of communication. Whereas, communication is one of the determinant aspects of the establishment of a social harmony that is became true by an attitude of tolerance among religious people. However, there are people who have different religious backgrounds, but liveable harmoniously through good communication, so as to create a social life of harmony and tolerance. This research has aim to describe the communication of Gadingan people in appropiate with the principles contained in the Qur'an. Based on the background of the problem, the subject in this research is Islamic Communication, with the title: Communication of Islam in maintaining tolerance: Qualitative Descriptive Study on the Society of Gadingan. The principles of Islamic communication that exist in the Qur'an are divided into Qaulan 'Azima (theological da'wah communication), Qaulan Baligha (psychological da'wah communication), Qaulan Karima (humanist propaganda communication), Qaulan Layyina (spiritualist propaganda communication), Qaulan Maisura (rationalist communication da'wah), Qaulan Ma'rufa (sociological da'wah communication), Qaulan Sadida (reconstructive da'wah communication), Qaulan Saqila (qur'anik da'wah communication), Qaulan Ahsan (integralist missionary communication). The object of this research is the Gadingan’s Village community. This type of the research is descriptive research that using a qualitative approach. The result of this research indicate that the Gadingan’s village community apply of the principles values of Islamic communication in appropiate with the six principles of Islamic communication in the Qur’an: qaulan maisura, qaulan baligha, qaulan sadida, qaulan ma'rufa, qaulan layyina, and principles of qaulan karima communication. Of the six principles of Islamic communication, the practice is applied integeralistic by the Gadingan people. In specific contexts and issues of maintaining social harmony and caring for the spirit of tolerance, Gadingan people have tend to use the values of the two principles of Islamic communication from the six communication principles that are applied, namely: the principle of qaulan ma'rufa communication and karima qaulan communication.
