As one of the delicious seasonings, it is often added to various dishes like Rujak Cingur (fruit), Rujak Lontong and Tahu Walik. Maduranese constitute the consumers who like petis the most. This explains why the industry of Petis never stops its production process to meet people's need of petis. According to chapter 8 verse 1 (i) UUPK, Every production which is made has its certain rules. One of them is to attach expiration date label on the product packaging, but in fact, many owners of home-based industry cases do not publish label on the package especially home industry in Legung Timur ignore the rule. This draws the researcher's interest to conduct research on the legality of the agreement of buy and sell and the consumer defense against traditional food which does not give a description of the expiration date. This is a case study on a home-based fish paste industry in legung timur in the perspective of islamic law and UUPK. This is a field research in which all data are collected from interviews, observation and documentation involving the stakeholders such as producers, consumers, DISPERINDAG and DINKES in Sumenep. This research adopted the normative approach by citing the two most authoritative sources of Islamic jurisprudence, the Qur'an and hadith, as well as positive laws. This is a descriptive-analytical research in which concrete facts from the process production to the process of sale are explored and then analyzed to have a good conclusion. The research came into a conclussion that there are some contributing factors behind some owners' not sticking the expiration date label on the product packaging, including internal factors like their educational and economic background and external factors, consumers and environment. According to Istih}sa>n bil ijma>' buy and sell of traditional-food products without the description of "best before dates" in Legung Timur is legal. Because there is no loss found. However, it is strongly recommended for the producers of Petis to put on a product label describing the date before which the product is best consumed for everyone's benefit %K traditional food, expiration date, consumer defense, Islamic law %D 2019 %I UNIVERSITAS ISLAM NEGERI SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA %L digilib37437
