abstract: The purpose of this study is to disscussed about how the information behavior of the religious teacher in the Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi to search information to meet the needs of the information. The research methodology used in this study is a qualitative. The data collection was done by indepth interviews, observation, and literature. Data analysis used in the theory of Miles and Huberman through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Research results obtained including : (1) Behavior before information search is divided into : a) The context of the information needs sought by religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi leads to their information needs as teaching. individuals varies according to the activities and information needed. In addition, they also search for information that is outside of their teaching interests, such as entertainment. b) The activation mechanism shows that the majority of religious teacher Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi searches for information because it is based on anxiety about bad things that will happen if they do not search for information. The anxiety that exists in the religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi motivates them to search for information. c) Intermediary variables include psychological, environmental,
demographic, and not the characteristics of information sources. The factor that most influenced the search for religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi was using primary books and secondary books as reference material. d) Second of activation mechanism is risk and reward theory. The religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi still pay attention to the risk of information seeking. Therefore, only some religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi use the internet as a reference source because they pay attention to be source. (2) current information
seeking behaviors include passive attention, passive search, active search, and continuous search. The religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi tends to engage in seeking behavior ranging from passive attention to active search stages. For the active search stage and the search continues, it is very rare for religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi to arrive at this stage. (3) Behavior after information retrieval includes processing and use of information. There are the religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi some clerics who get information but cannot be processed and used for teaching needs. For example information that
does not match the audience. (4) Of the three information seeking behaviors, the majority of Islamic clerics conducted searches until the behavioral stage before information seeking. As for the advice given is : (1) The religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi should further expand his knowledge through a variety of learning media sources, both from tradisional and online books, including maktabah syamilah. (2) The development of infrastructure facilities for religious teacher of Madrasah Diniyah An-Nawawi as a place to develop knowledge, such as building a madrasah of library.
