It focuses on a phenomenon where a muezzin imprisoned a non-Muslim who protested the loudspeaker of the mosque, which is popularly called Meiliana tragedy. Using qualitative methods with a case study approach, the data are collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentations. The result has shown that diversity can be constraint so long as it is not managed adequately. Consequently, the social conflict emerges between local people. This study confirms that the conflict was caused by the deployment of hoax. This becomes problematic as it is not managed well. To solve the problem, the truly and honest dialogues among conflicting parties are needed. In addition, religious harmony requires appropriate policies while giving trust to grassroots to solve their problems. The state apparatus can be supervisor and mediator for ceasing the social and religious conflicts.
