N2  - According to Krauss there is three categories of languages status. There are moribund languages, endangered languages, and safe languages. Moribund language is caused because there are no more speakers of the language. Endangered language is language used by some people or communities in society. As for safe language have much speaker in society. Arabic language has a status as a safe language because so many people in this world use it and Arabic language is used as an international language.  
However, in Indonesia, Arabic language has a status as foreign status or as two or three language. Based on that status, the researcher argues that Arabic language is vulnerable to extinction from Arabic learners. Therefore, it is necessary to see the language attitude and maintenance language of Arabic
learner, especially among the alumni of Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University who have become professionals in language field. The phenomenon will be seen using Garvin and Matiot theory. They said that there were three component of
language attitudes. There were loyalty of language, pride of language, and awareness of language.  
Based on my survey, I made three categories for my research object. First categories are alumni of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, living in Yogyakarta, and teaching Arabic language. Second categories are alumni of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, living in
islamic boarding school of Yogyakarta, and teaching Arabic language. Third categories are alumni of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, living in Yogyakarta, and not  teaching Arabic language.  The aims of this research are to describe of language attitude, maintenance language and relation between language attitude and the profession taken by alumni. This type of research is field research using a qualitative descriptive approach. The analysis method is taken through interview and observation.  
The results of this research were pride of language of each category is positive. Loyalty of language of each category is negative. The maintenance language of first and second categories are teaching, reading, listening to music and having Arabic communities. The third category don?t have a maintenance language. It means that in the third category can be said to be extinct.
