abstract: Tari Topeng Ireng is basicly a dance that originally appeared around the
slopes of Merapi and Merbabu Mountain in 1960. Tari Topeng Ireng came from
the village called Tuksongo, Borobudur, Magelang before finally reached the
people from Temanggung. The dance was originally used as a communication
media for the dissemination and spreading of Islamic religion by the guardians as
we know as Wali Songo. The problem from this research is to examine the meaning
of the message of prophetic communication such as what is inside Tari Topeng
Ireng from Temanggung, with the focus of research is what humanization message
inside Tari Topeng Ireng, message of the liberation in Tari Topeng Ireng, and what
transcendence message is in Tari Topeng Ireng using the values of humanization,
liberation, and transcendence in the profetic communication paradigm.
The result is Tari Topeng Ireng as a means of communication media of
Islamic religion in which it communicates about the messages of life, human beings,
human beings with nature (the environment), and humans with their God. The
message of communication in Tari Topeng Ireng is delivered through three
elements, first is through movements, then singing, and the last are costumes that
are presented in three stages of the dance. Which of the delivered messages is very
correlated with the values of prophetic communication. A message of humanization,
message of liberation, and message of transcendence that is a cover of the message
of social life, religion, education, and economics.
