abstract: Islamic insurance companies become one of the Islamic financial institutions that need to be developed to improve Islamic finance in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence profit in sharia life and general insurance in Indonesia such as gross contributions, investment returns, and surplus underwriting of tabarru funds. The samples in this research are sharia life and general insurance companies registered with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) which publishes complete and published financial statements. The samples selection are done by purposive sampling method, so there are 37 companies in this study. The method of this research used path analysis with SPSS 24 program.
Partial test results (t test) indicate that the gross contribution has no effect on the surplus underwriting of tabarru funds and profit. While investment returns have a significant positive effect on surplus underwriting of tabarru funds and profit. And for the surplus underwriting of tabarru funds variable itself also has a significant positive effect on the profit of sharia life and general insurance companies in Indonesia. While indirectly, the gross contribution and investment return through the surplus underwriting of tabarru funds do not have a significant effect on profit.
