abstract: This study aims to determine the model, motives and implications of the
prohibition of the book described in some scenes in the film Fahrenheit 45 1. The
research is a qualitative research technique library ( library research ) using the
method of Roland Barthes semiotic approach that focuses its study is the book ban
in the Film Fahrenheit 451 . Collecting data in this study by watching movies,
taking notes, analyzing pictures and dialogues on films. Primary sources are in
the Fahrenheit 451 film scene and secondary sources come from books or
literature related to the research topic. In this study, the results obtained are (1)
Model book banning is carried out by means of hate propaganda against books
and book readers, limiting public reading sources , psychological terror in the
form of punishment against the public, burning books, and book raids
( sweeping ); (2) The motive for the prohibition of books was carried out because
of the influence of events in the past . The government chooses to control the way
people think so that similar things in the past do not happen again in the
present. To control people's thinking, books are prohibited , because books are
considered capable of creating new opinions and perspectives in society; (3) The
implication of the book ban is that people hate books and book readers, people
find it difficult to understand the interpretation of various ideas, people do not
have freedom of expression and opinion.
