"This study aims to describe the utilization of Maktabah Syāmilah (MS)\r\nand Maktabah Syumila NU Fiha (MSNU) at pesantren. This issue was\r\noriginated from the use of Maktabah Syāmilah software in traditional\r\npesantren (salaf), which have long been known for their scientific\r\ntraditions based on Islamic classical books. MS contains books by the\r\nArab Wahabi ulema, which later triggered the birth of Maktabah Syumila\r\nNU Fiha containing digital yellow books (Islamic classical books)\r\ndelivered in salaf pesantren. Both software serve as a contested discourse\r\nin this study. On this basis, the purpose of this study was to uncover\r\nproblems regarding the pesantren’s response to the contestation of digital\r\nauthority in the use of Maktabah Syamilah and Syumila NU along with\r\ntheir contestation and problems.\r\nThis is a qualitative research with a descriptive-interpretive approach.\r\nData were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation.\r\nThe collected data were analyzed using data reduction, presentation, and\r\nconclusion methods. Data about the use of Syamilah software and\r\nSyumila NU Fiha were taken from 3 pesantren, namely Pesantren\r\nAssalafiyyah Mlangi Yogyakarta, Pesantren Hidayatul Mubtadi'in\r\nLirboyo Kediri, and Pesantren Salafiyyah Syafi'iyyah Sukorejo\r\nSitubondo. The three pesantren are salaf pesantren, which use the yellow\r\nbook as the main learning resources. The analysis was based on the\r\ntheoretical framework of the principle of information freedom in digital\r\ndemocracy, contestation in technology and ideology, and the concept of\r\ndigital authority.\r\nThis study revealed three main conclusions; First, pesantren had not\r\nprovided students with freedom of access to digital information as a way\r\nto optimize the use of Syamilah and Syumila NU software to search for\r\ninformation on classical books. Second, the created technology was not\r\nvalue-free. In fact, there was a heavily contested values between the\r\ntheological ideology of Wahabi and Aswaja NU, as well as the\r\ncontestation of authority in the different form of the yellow books,\r\nbetween the printed version and the digital version. In addition, there was also a notable contestation of market segment of kiai authority through\r\ndigital sources with a continuously evolving cycle along with human\r\ncreativity. Third, there was a contestation of digital authority in the use of\r\nShamilah and Syumila NU software as an expression of intellectual\r\nfreedom and digital democracy to select authoritative digital religious\r\ninformation sources as a means of information retrieval in pesantren.\r\nOn this basis, the author’s suggests that there should be an effort in\r\nproviding students with freedom of access to digital information as a way\r\nto ensure the optimum use of software of classical books in supporting\r\nthe learning process in Salaf Pesantren.
