N2  - This thesis discusses public spahere critique of the mosque library concept at Masjid Gedhe Kauman Yogyakarta's library. The object of this research was the concepts, activities, and management at Masjid Gedhe Library so it becomes a public sphere for users and the public. The purpose of this research was to analyze and describe the forms of the public sphere, the existence of the mosque library as a public space, and conceptual critique regarding public sphere at Masjid Gedhe Kauman Yogyakarta's library. This research used the qualitative research method. The data validity test used the triangulation test. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the research result, Masjid Gedhe Kauman Yogyakarta's library has public sphere forms of activities and services for users and the general public. Furthermore, the library has activities for the general public without looking at their backgrounds such as Christology studies, Pustalika, book review, workshop, circulation, and podcast. The public sphere is applied there because the library gives access to information through collections and activities. The general public is permitted to have discussions and expressing their opinion. So the status and backgrounds of the users do not matter for Masjid Gedhe Kauman Yogyakaryas's Library and create the mosque library being inclusive for everyone. History said that Masjid Gedhe Kauman library has a modernism ideology as they made it a location for dissemination of Muhammadiyah doctrine by KH. Ahmad Dahlan so the domination of that ideology remains strong. But in the library, it does not make a hindrance to the ideological difference between library users as well as the management includes procuring of the collection although they do not leave the originality of the ideology that is embedded in the library. Suggestion for this research is enhancement cooperation by mosque and outside institution. Else, expected mosque library to provide information service as well as discussion room and arcing that general public can be accessing information at the mosque library. So that mosques can be part of compliance with the information needs and brightens up the society.
