Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the impact of financial deepening and macroeconomics on income inequality in Indonesia. This study also aims to determine whether there is a non-linear relationship between financial deepening and income inequality as proposed by the Greenwood and Jovanovic (GJ) hypothesis. The research period used was 1982 to 2018, with an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) analysis tool. The results show that financial deepening in the short term supports the U-shaped relationship to income inequality, while in the long term it supports the GJ hypothesis with an inverted U-shaped relationship. In addition, in the short term the income inequality variable is also influenced by macroeconomic variables such as inflation, economic growth, and international trade. Meanwhile, in the long run the income inequality variable is only affected by the inflation variable.
