abstract: The Impact of Covid-19 pandemic has not only caused casualities, but also
economic, mental health, more shrouded in fear, and worried all people around
the world. This thing exacerbated when people got and consume too much
information in mainstream media and social media. In the midst of this problem,
The Yogyakarta Special Region Government has the Sultan Menyapa program,
The Sultan Menyapa is a program in initiated directly by Sultan Hamengku
Buwana X by delivering messages about Covid-19 Pandemic. Hopefully, The
Sultan Menyapa program can give advice and change perspective people about
this Pandemic.
This study aimed to find reconstruction of the meaning of pandemic which
Sultan Hamnegku Buwana X produce in Sultan Menyapa. The data obtained by
documentation by speech of text which delivered by Sultan Hamengku Buwana X
in The Sultan Menyapa. In unraveling the implied message, researcher used
roland barthes’s semiotic analysis model to find sign that could be categorized
into denotation, connotations and myths. The results is Sri Sultan Hamengku
Buwana uses the Sultan Menyapa program as a medium to respond to problems
related to the Covid-19 pandemic and to provide a new perspective on the
meaning of a pandemic to the community.
