%X It is the fact that institution of education has yet to be able to strongly fulfil  the parent’s expectation of building student’s character, in this case social piety, is  the problem that has to be solved. These problems become certainly not only a  challenge but also an opportunity for educational institution that has  fundamentally Islamic value to answer the expectation of most parent. The  principal role of Madrasah cannot be ignored in solving these challenges. Islamic  junior high state school (MTs N) 2 Grobogan, one of formal Islamic educational  institution, takes these challenges and opportunities by conducting social piety  improvement program of its student based on character building.  This research concerns on the problems; 1. The effort of MTs N 2  Grobogan on increasing the social piety of the students based on character  building; 2. The principal role of Madrasah in the management of increasing the  social piety of the students based on character building; 3. The principal strategy  in his/her role for increasing students social piety through character building in  MTs N 2 Grobogan. The technique used in determining informants is purposive  sampling. Collecting data techniques are from observation, interview, and  documents. Data analysis technique used Miles and Haberman’s analysis types  that are included in collecting data, data reduction, data display, verification and  reaching conclusion.   This research was obtained the conclusions; 1. MTs N 2 Grobogan makes  serious effort to increase the social piety of the students based on character  building due to carrying educational institution role and its function based on  national education purpose stated in regulation of the national education system  No. 20/2003, achieving one of goals of increasing social piety of MTs N 2  Grobogan, implementing the mandate of Islamic religion minister regulation No.  000912/2013, in order to realize parent’s expectation and to solve problem that  become a case appearance in the school circle related with student delinquency   problems; 2. The role played by the principal of Madrasah in invoking planning,   implementing and evaluating in order to achieve the vision, mission, and the aim  of the Madrasah by deciding coordinator of social piety improvement, making  Standard Operational Procedure (SOP), setting schedule, determining social piety  improvement strategy of the students based on character building; 3. The principal  strategies in his/her role for increasing students social piety through character  building in are applying moral acting, moral modeling, and moral knowing.
