Previous studies on HT conclude that HT movement survived in democratic countries such as Malaysia, Uzbekistan, England and Indonesia and failed to take a strong hold in autocratic ones, especially in the Middle East such as Lebanon, Egypt and Turkey. However, this thesis examines HT in a democratizing Indonesian context. Focusing on Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI, Indonesian branch of HT) and its social media mobilization after its dissolution in 2017, this study discusses why HTI was dissolved in a democratic country and how the activities of HTI activists after its dissolution. Data collection was carried out by observation on Felix Siauw, Yuk Ngaji, Khilafah Channel and Barisan Bangun Negeri accounts. This study concludes that HTI failed to remain revolutionary and became increasingly entrenched in Indonesia’s existing democratic and political system. HTI was dissolved in the democratic state of Indonesia due to the closure of the ongoing political system and its failure to compete with other Islamic movements in approaching the state. After being disbanded, HTI, which initially stood as an ideological and exclusive Islamic movement, turned into a pragmatic Islamic movement and was open to secular or nationalist groups. This is represented by HTI through its recognition of Pancasila, democracy, HTI in social media, the meaning of "caliphate" and the increasing issue of ukhuwah Islamiyyah. %K Islamic Movement, Hizbut Tahrir, HTI, democracy, Indonesia, social media, post-dissolution 2017 %D 2021 %I UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA %L digilib45526
