abstract: This study aims to determine the role of Beteng Cendekia Public Reading Gardens (TBM) in empowering the lives of the elderly and to determine the impact on the conditions that were carried out after the Beteng Cendekia Public Reading Garden (TBM) was established. This type of research is qualitative with data collection methods through observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis process includes data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. While the data validity test used includes credibility test, transferability test, dependability test and confirmability test. The results of this study indicate (1) the role of TBM Beteng Cendekia in the efforts to empower the elderly including: (a) TBM as a place of learning as well as adding insight for the elderly by doing art training activities and learning together (b) TBM as a provider of information. TBM provides facilities in the form of various types of book collections such as religion, general knowledge, cooking recipes and serves psychological and health consultations (c) TBM as a place for social assistance. TBM provides social assistance, namely health and legal assistance (d) TBM as a place to learn skills as well as increase the productive economy with a variety of activities including: livestock cultivation, sprouts cultivation, gardening practices, making organic fertilizers and making salted eggs. 2) The impact of changes after the presence of TBM Beteng Cendekia is that the elderly can carry out productive activities that can increase skills and income as well as fill spare time.
