abstract: The global water crisis has become a big threat, and how to deal with water risks is important for companies. Water disclosure is an important means for companies to convey information about water management and water risks to external stakeholders. Based on agency theory and legitimacy theory, this study examines the effect of water disclosure on the cost of capital and corporate risk taking as a means of transmitting signals between companies and the capital market. Using sample of 445 manufacturing companies listed on the ASEAN Sharia index for the 2013-2019 period, this study uses a panel data regression model that is processed using Stata 14 statistical tools. The results show a significant relationship between disclosure of water information and the cost of capital with a negative relationship. In line with this, on the corporate risk taking variable, the results show a significant and positive direction. To validate the results of this study, this study conducted a robustness test using an additional regression model to test each sample country separately. The results of the robustness test show results that are consistent with the results of the main test.
