        abstract = {The research is motivated by the authors? anxiety about the emergence of covid-
19 since the beginning of 2020 in Indonesia. It provides the learning process
carried out remotely by online learning, so the students do not fall behind in their
learning while also reducing COVID-19 infection in Indonesia. Online learning
during the covid-19, seems to make education lose its spirit. Education aims to
create meaning in learning and students with noble character. It has become a new
homework for teachers such as teachers who are in charge of Islamic Religious
Education. This research aims to determine the need cultivation of moral character
education in online learning, as well as to determine the strategy of Islamic
Religious Education teachers in the cultivation of morals character education in
online learning at SMP Negeri 4 Pakem.
The researcher uses a type of field research with descriptive qualitative analysis.
Data was collected using observation, interview, and documentation techniques.
The object of the research was students? class VII, Islamic Religious Education
teachers, representatives of the school curriculum, and IT staff at SMP Negeri 4
Pakem,
The result shows that: first, the cultivation of morals character education in online
learning is something that needs to be worked on. It is because the covid-19 has
been going on for a long time, to prevent character deterioration and loss of
learning experience, innovations are made in strategies for the cultivation of
morals character education are adapted to online learning conditions. Second, the
cultivation of morals character education in Islamic Religious Education by online
learning, the teacher uses the strategies such as: designing online learning to be
similar to face-to-face learning, being consistent in applying school culture,
collaborating with parents, and maximizing the use of information and
communication technology, habituation and moral knowing. The challenges faced
by teachers in the cultivation of moral character education are loss of the example
usually obtained by the participants themselves from the teacher, the delay in the
implementation of character education strengthening programs in schools, the
limited ability of teachers to control the character development of students and
difference of the parents? backgrounds of students.}
