"Multiculturalism, especially in Islamic boarding school with non-formal education\r\nbackgrounds, is expected to be able to solve problems to minimize the conflict\r\ngaps that occur in Islamic boarding schools. The understanding of\r\nmulticulturalism has to be able to provide students awareness on conflicts that\r\noccur in Islamic boarding schools are not a good thing to be cultivated.\r\nFurthermore, education have to be able to provide intellectual offerings among\r\nothers by designing materials, methods, and curriculums that are able to rely on\r\nthe importance of mutual tolerance, respect, ethnic, ethic, and cultural differences\r\nwithin the environment. This research is motivated by differences in the\r\ngeographical location of the two pesantren, the Nurul Islam Islamic boarding\r\nschool is located on the island of Kalimantan and the Binaul Ummah Islamic\r\nboarding school is located on the island of Java, namely the Special Region of\r\nYogyakarta, culturally the pesantren is plural or (Plural) in terms of ethnicity,\r\nculture, race, and education background. This diversity, of course, will be able to\r\ncause problems such as small frictions. teaching multicultural education from an\r\nearly age in Islamic boarding schools is a must. So that, a bigger impact does not\r\noccur in the future that related to ethnic issues.\r\nThere are three formula of this problem. First, what are the multicultural values in\r\nthe Nurul Islam Islamic boarding school. Second, what are the multicultural\r\nvalues in the Binaul Ummah Islamic boarding school. Third, how is the\r\nmulticultural comparison in those Islamic boarding schools. This type of research\r\nis descriptive qualitative research, data sources obtained using research include\r\ndocuments, and extracting information. Data collection techniques is done through\r\nobservation, interview documentation and the data analyzed by data reduction to\r\ndraw conclusion.\r\nResearcher tried to explored Multicultural Values in Islamic Boarding School\r\neducation (Comparative Analysis of the Nurul Islam Islamic Boarding School and\r\nBinaul Ummah Islamic Boarding School) with comparative analysis to find the\r\ndifferences and similarities of both Pesantren. The result show that there is a\r\nsimilarity of both Pesantren are: the boarding schools are both together applying\r\nmulticultural values from the aspect of values, recognizing diversity (plural),\r\nrespecting equality, tolerance, justice, and humanity (humanism).\r\nThe implementation of multiculturalism in both Islamic boarding schools are\r\nprioritized Islamic teachings as a foothold in instilling an understanding of\r\npluralism in a cultural frame. In addition, Islamic boarding schools as a pillar to\r\ncounter radicalism and terrorism through instilling the values of love for the\r\nhomeland (NKRI). The values taught in Islamic boarding schools cannot be\r\nseparated from teaching students about Islam Rahmatan lil‟alamin. Besides, Islam\r\nprovides benefit to everyone to give a message of peace and tolerance in\r\nrespecting differences in culture, ethnicity, race, and educational background. .\r\nThe multicultural values which contained in multiculturalism in Islamic boarding\r\nschools are recognizing the diversity in Islamic boarding schools environment.\r\nFor example, the differences in culture, ethnicity, and race. Furthermore, students\r\nare taught to respect equality with all students such as, freedom of speech in terms\r\nof expressing opinions and as well as respecting the existing culture. Tolerance is\r\nseen from togetherness during activities such as, mutual cooperation and mutual\r\nrespect. Humanity provides a guarantee to protect students from different cultural\r\nbackgrounds. Besides, all of whom have to defend and fight for humanity.\r\nThe purpose of multiculturalism in both Islamic boarding schools is to instill the\r\ncharacter of students based on morality and politeness. Those are taught for all\r\nstudents in a very early period when they came in the Islamic boarding school. All\r\nstudents in both Islamic boarding schools are all treated equally without any\r\ndiscrimination in terms of educational background, whether those are rich or poor.\r\nThis goal is applied for creating an independence student.
