%X The research aims to determine the role of the library in cultural preservation by the Library and Archives Service of Berau Regency. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with data collection through interviews, observation, and documentation. Testing the validity of the data is done by testing the credibility through extended observations, triangulation of sources and member checks. This study uses qualitative data analysis based on Miles and Huberman, namely data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the research indicate that: (1) the Library and Archives Service of Berau Regency is generally guided by the Regent Regulation Number 69 of 2016 in carrying out the cultural preservation.; (2) According to its duties and functions, the library plays a variety of roles in promotion, collection development, data collection of ancient manuscripts and local content, exploring cultural value and cooperation, and digitalization.; and (3) The obstacles faced by libraries in carrying out cultural preservation start from the limited human resources, simple preservation activities, limited library budgets, the lach of enthusiasm for local writers to bring up cultural themes, monotonous library promotion and the impact of COVID-19. Solutions to overcome these obstacles, the Library and Archives Service of Berau Regency prepare preservation and IT teams that hasve been trained, uses the budget optimally, collaborates with other institutions, and improves the quality of tools that help the cultural preservation. Through this research, it can be seen the importance of cultural preservation by the library for the community in the region. Suggestions for the Library and Archives Service of Berau Regency to maximize the library in implementing its role in cultural preservation.
