%T OMER’S EXISTENTIALISM AS SEEN IN THE AMERICAN DREAMZ MOVIE (2006)
%X The object of this research is a movie entitled American Dreamz (2006). Omer, as the main character, is a Muslim of Middle Eastern nationality. He goes through many difficult times, and the decision he makes in every part of his life is to prove his existence. However, there are always responsibilities that exist for every choice he makes, and there is also an issue about lack of religious belief or faith in his character. The research of this movie aims to analyze Omer's behavior by applying existentialism theory as the leading theory and supported by film theory. The researcher focuses on examining Omer’s characteristics as a Muslim who believes in God but has features that can be categorized as the characteristics of existentialism by Sartre, having an opinion for not believing in the existence of God. This research uses the qualitative method. Based on the analysis, the researcher concludes that Omer has six characteristics of existentialism such as subjectivity, the consciousness of the world, contingency, anti-materialism, humanity, and bad faith.
