However, in the Kangean Island area which is administratively included in the Sumenep Regency area, puritan Islamic groups through the basis of the pesantren education movement can develop quite well. The arrival of puritan groups cannot be separated from the role of Muhammadiyah and its network of educational institutions. This research will try to answer questions about: how is the history of the entry and development of puritan groups in Kangean?; what is the form of the purification movement carried out?;What is the impact of the puritan movement on religion and the diversity of the Kangean Islands community? This research is expected to see the extent to which puritan groups have an influence on Kangean society. To answer these questions, the researcher uses the analytical knife introduced by Mc Adam et.al that there are three variables that determine social movements, namely: First,political opportunity. Second, is the form of organization, both structural and cultural (mobilizing structure) and the third is a process that is able to create significance in social movements and is a bridge between politics and action (cultural framings). The research findings reveal that there is involvement of puritan groups in local political dynamics in several villages based on the puritan Islamic community in Kangean, with pesantren and socio-religious organizations as their mass-structural base. As for their cultural framing, they do it in the purification movement by trying to take a 'dialogical' approach to traditional Muslims. This movement has an impact on the occurrence of cultural changes in Kangean society, both at the level of discourse and cultural action.} }
