Articulated by Islamist political forces using a range of communication channels, including direct contact and communal activity around the mosque and neighbourhood as well as print Islam and the internet, the Islamist ideology is working to shape a narrative of heroic confrontation with the Other. This ideology contributes to youth mobilization in street politics and violent activism which constitute important aspects of their efforts to negotiate identity and thus claim space. Street actions offer youth a privileged arena for the diffusion of their heroic messages and identity, whereby they demonstrate their position as agents involved in i adoption and adaptation and dissemination of a sacred global value system and culture. publisher: Idea Press date: 2017 type: Book Section type: PeerReviewed format: text language: en identifier: https://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/48480/1/Violent%20Activism%2C%20Islamist%20Ideology%2C%20and%20the%20Conguest%20of%20Public%20Space%20Among%20Youth%20in%20Indonesia.pdf identifier: Noorhaidi Hasan, - (2017) Violent Activism, Islamist Ideology, and the Conguest of Public Space Among Youth in Indonesia.
