abstract: This research aims to describe the effectiveness of the OPAC of the Sunan Kalijaga UIN Library as an information retrieval system in searching Islamic collections specifically for Arabic books. This study uses a type of quantitative descriptive research method. The population in this study came from Islamic collection data specifically for Arabic books stored in the library's OPAC database. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling and proportionate stratified random sampling to take 98 Islamic subjects as research samples and keywords in the search test. The data collection used in this research are observation, documentation, interviews, and tests. while for the data analyst, using the calculation of the results of recall and precision to describe the effectiveness of the OPAC Library of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The results of a search test conducted using 98 Islamic subjects resulted in an average recall of 73.1408% from an average precision of 55.7021%. After matching the theory with the average recall and precision search results, it can be concluded that the OPAC information retrieval system at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Library searches Islamic collections of Arabic books through a subject approach, using 98 Islamic subject keywords, which is less effective. This is because OPAC displays a lot of irrelevant Islamic collections and there is a discrepancy between the keywords used by the users and the subjects used by the librarians, causing the percentage recall to be greater than precision.
