This book has been stated by several researchers as a book of commentaries attributed to Ibn 'Arabi. In a sense, the author is not Ibn 'Arabi, but a scholar named Abd ar-Razzaq al-Qasyani as-Samarqandi (d. 730 H). This research is considered important because, in the author's opinion, it is impossible to understand the story of Ashabul Kahfi in depth using the bil ma's|ur interpretation approach or an sich history which tends to be exoteric. This is because the story is full of something supra-rational, so another alternative to understand the story in-depth is the esoteric Sufistic approach because the Sufis in their discourse of interpretation believe that there is a hidden inner meaning. The author uses the analytical-descriptive method as an analytical knife to detail the complex research objects, namely by dismantling each element of the entire object under study. In addition, to reveal the phenomena that occur behind the object of research, related to the epistemological aspect, the author in this case uses the analytical-explanatory method. This study concludes that the interpretation of the story of Ashabul Kahfi contained in the book is allegorical. In a sense, the interpretation does not reveal the story factually, but the story of Ashabul Kahf is interpreted as a symbol or allusion to the Sufistic concepts of the interpreter. In addition, the interpretation also tends to be arbitrary, so that the interpretation is often difficult to understand because it is not in sync with the outward aspect of the text. More than that, the writer also concludes that the interpretation is a form of legitimacy for his Sufistic doctrine or teachings. In the epistemological realm, the author finds philosophical reasoning behind his Sufistic interpretation, namely the philosophy of illumination (isyraq) and emanation (faid}). From this, it can be concluded that epistemologically, philosophy is the fundamental basis for this interpretation. In other words, the interpretation is based on philosophical reasoning, namely reason that accumulates philosophical concepts, and then inherits a principle and rules of thought which a priori manifest into a system of knowledge (episteme). On this basis also, the author concludes that epistemologically the interpretation of the story of Ashabul Kahf contained in the book of Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Karim is tafsirsufi nazari, because the interpretation is more in seeking legitimacy for the doctrine of mysticism rather than revealing the meaning of the text authentically.
