        abstract = {Jihad is a concept of Islamic teachings that has been subjected to
controversy over meaning. The term jihad is often misconstrued, synonymous
with the terms terrorism, violence and holy war. A narrow understanding by some
Muslims of the meaning of jihad will give rise to radical groups that lead to the
emergence of movements that harm Islam. While the Qur'an itself has a meaning
that is not only interpreted lafadz dhahirnya, but also has an inner meaning. As a
sufi ishari'ah mufasir, Shaykh ?Abdul Q{\=a}dir Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i} interprets the Qur'an by
revealeding the inner meaning of the Verses of the Qur'an. With regard to the
misunderstanding of the meaning of jihad mentioned above, the author feels the
need to conduct a special study of the meaning of jihad in depth and more
comprehensively in the thesis research entitled Epistemology of Interpretation of
Jihadi Verses (Tafs{\=i}r Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i} Study by Shaykh ?Abdul Q{\=a}dir Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i}). The
main problem of this thesis is how the Qur'an interprets the jihadi verse according
to Shaykh ?Abdul Q{\=a}dir Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i}. This research builds on three formulations of
the problem: 1) What is Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i}'s interpretation of jihadi verse, 2) How
epistemological the interpretation of Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i} verse, 3) What characterizes and
implications of Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i}'s interpretation. This thesis research aims to: 1) Analyze
Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i}'s interpretation of jihadi verses, 2) Analyze the epistemology of Al-
Jail{\=a}n{\=i}'s interpretation, 3) Analyze the characteristics and impikasi of Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i}'s
interpretation.
This research is a literature research or library reseach. The approach used is
the historical-philosophical approach. The data source used consists of primary
data and secondary data. While the method of data collection is qualitative, data
analysis is descriptive-analytical.
The results of this study found that Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i} in interpreting the Qur'an
applies 4 methods based in certain aspects namely the bayani, ijmali and tahl{\=i}l{\=i}
methods. While the form of interpretation is al-ma'{\.s}ur and al ra'y (ijtihad) and
muqarr{\=i}n. As for the pattern of interpretation is the pattern of Sufi ishari.S. The
validity of its benchmarks uses a theory of coherence. The concept of
understanding jihad according to Al-Jail{\=a}n{\=i} explains that jihad is not completely
interpreted by war, but is largely continuous with the concept of its piety, that
jihad as earnestness leads to Allah to reach maqam wu{\c s}ul and musy{\=a}hadah. The
implication of this study is that it can provide an overview of the jihadi verse
because of the importance of reviewing it so that there is no misunderstanding in
interpreting the jihadi verse.}
