In the 4.0 era that identical with wireless technology, Augmented Reality (AR) has become one of the alternatives to be utilized in developing learning media. Several studies state that this technology is effective as a medium for learning science and technology. Therefore, research is also needed to examine the use of AR technology in learning Islamic education. This study aims to determine the urgency of developing instructional media using Augmented Reality technology in PAI learning at SMA Sains Al-Qur'an Yogyakarta as a manifestation of learning media innovation. This is research and development using the ADDIE model from Robert Marribe Branch. The development process is carried out with 5 steps namely analyze, design, develop, implement and evaluate. Data collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires then analyze using quantitative and qualitative approaches according to the data obtained. The results showed that: (1) the innovation of PAI learning media by utilizing Augmented Reality (AR) technology needs to be done at SMA Sains Al-Qur'an because of the demands of the times, the conditions of the students, teachers and institutions that are ready to maximize the use of technology and the unavailability of PAI learning media based on AR technology. (2) The reseach and development process is carried out with 5 steps, namely analyzing, designing, developing, implementing and evaluating, the researcher finds a medium, namely MANHAJ AR. (3) The effectiveness of learning media with AR technology in helping the learning process is 73.7%. After this media is implemented and evaluated, MANHAJ AR is proven to be a solution to the problem of PAI learning in SMA Sains Al-Qur'an because it can be well received by students with excellent perceptions, can provide good learning outcomes and can foster motivation to learn the student.
