abstract: This study aims to determine the relationship between self-concept and anxiety of pre-release prisoners in Class IIA Wirogunan Yogyakarta Prison. The variables in this study were self-concept and anxiety. Subjects in the study found 58 residents of Class IIA Wirogunan Yogyakarta who were selected using random sampling technique. The reliability of the measuring instrument in this study was the Anxiety Scale (α=0.923) and the Self-Concept Scale (α=0.938). The Anxiety Scale is based on symptoms of anxiety according to Nolen (2007), while the Self-Concept Scale is based on aspects of self-concept according to the theory of Calhoun and Acocella (1990). The data analysis method used is Pearson Product Moment. The results of the analysis showed that the hypothesis in this study was accepted, namely that there was a negative relationship between self-concept and anxiety in pre-release prisoners at the Class IIA Wirogunan Yogyakarta Prison (r = -0.777; p = 0.000; p <0.05). The more positive the self-concept of the inmates, the lower the anxiety level of the pre-free inmates.
