This study aims to explore the description of independent character education in the family for children with special needs for hearing impairment. This study involved 3 main informants, namely parents who have children with special needs. The criteria for children with special needs are: deaf, aged 5-17 years, male or female. The method used in this study was a qualitative type with a phenomenological approach. Collecting data using semi-structured interview techniques, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used was data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing/verification. The results showed that the description of independent character education found in families with children with special needs with hearing impairment in Boyolali included: (1) children with special needs still have independent character problems, (2) parents provided examples and direct practice, (3) parents use sign language when communicating, (4) independent characters already owned special need children. The supporting that influence independent character education include: internal factors which include parents internal motivation itself and subjective experiences, as well as external factors such as family, neighbors, friends, schools, and social communities. Then the inhibiting factors are the way of communication, the spoiled attitude of children with special needs, and economic factors. For parents, the independent character itself means that the child is able to succeed academically, be able to meet financial needs in the future, and carry out various activities without depending on others.} }
