abstract: This study aims to determine the preservation activities of non-textual museum collections which consist of preservation procedures, factors causing damage to non-textual museum collections, conservation activities, restoration, and obstacles in preservation activities at the Benteng Vredeburg Museum, Yogyakarta. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, which means that the researcher observes the preservation activities of the non-textual museum collection at the Benteng Vredeburg Museum, Yogyakarta. Data were collected by means of observation, interviews, and documentation during the study. Test the validity of the data in this study using triangulation techniques, sources and time. The informants in this study were employees of the Vredeburg Fort Museum which consisted of four conservators, one curator, and one laboratory technician. The results of this study indicate that the preservation activities carried out by the Fort Vredeburg Museum Yogyakarta need approval from the Directorate General of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Preservation activities carried out on non-textual museum collections at the Vredeburg Fort Museum Yogyakarta vary according to the type of collection material and the form of damage. Fort Vredeburg Museum Yogyakarta in maximizing preservation activities also collaborates with various parties who are experts in their fields. There are constraints in human resources and the procurement of chemicals.
