Bono Setyo, M.Si. abstract: The background discusses the author’s interest in exploring how interpersonal communication pattern between the caregivers and students can play a role in improving character education during the covid-19 pandemic. The study in this research aims to analyze interpersonal communication pattern are applied by caregivers of Islamic Boarding Schools Daarunnajah MAN 1 Magelang through the four interpersonal communication patterns according to Coleman and Hammen. The research method of this study is qualitative research. Data collection technique using observation method, interview and documentation. Data analysis done by data reduction, data display, and verification. The subject in this study is caregivers and the students in the Islamic Boarding Schools Daarunnajah MAN 1 Magelang. During the covid-19 pandemic in improving character education the caregivers always apply the four of interpersonal communication pattern. The four of interpersonal communication patterns are social exchange pattern, role pattern, game pattern and international pattern. These four patterns used in enhancing eight characters namely religious, disciplined, tolerance, independent, honest, confident, cooperative, and creative.From the observation result which conducted can be concluded that the caregivers and the students have communication pattern and have interaction in the good one.
