Discriminative interpretations are easily found in classic exegesis books. How about Indonesian, contemporary exegesis books? Focused on three Indonesian popular tafsir from Hasbi, Hamka, and M. Quraish Shihab, this research seeks to comparatively answer how they interpreted the above mentioned verses of surah an-Nisa. It shows similarities and differences between Hasbi, Hamka, ana M. Quraish Shihab's interpretations. About women creation, Hasbi and Hamka are the same. They said that women are created just like men, while Quraish Shihab said that women are created from the rib of men. About women leader ship in family, Hasbi and Quraish applied social-contextual approach and said that women have to be led by men, meanwhile Hamka used realistic approach and said that from the beginning men are shown as leaders in protecting their family from any threats. About inheritance, Hasbi and Hamka said that because men has to earn for their family, they received more than women, but for Quraish, the substancial issue that women was involved in inheritance is more important than their share. About polygamous marriage, Hamka and Quraish are more social-contextual in their interpretations than Hasbi that mainly relied on asbab an-nuzul
