Read aloud is one of the story telling activities using story books which is loved by children. This research was motivated by the existence of the National Book Reading Movement (Gernasbaku) which was proclaimed by the government. Early childhood is highly recommended to recognize and know literacy from early age. Therefore, the development of language intelligence through read aloud activities in the Play Group (KB) of Wadas Kelir Purwokerto becomes very representative object of research to find out the implementation, successful , and also challenges and obstacles in early childhood literacy activities. This study aims to determine the implementation, successful and also challenges and obstacles in the development of language intelligence in early childhood through read aloud activities in KB Wadas Kelir Purwokerto. This type of research is field research. The object of this research located in KB Wadas Kelir Purwokerto. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that seeks to provide descriptions of the background and the characteristics that are unique of the cases that exist in the field to explore data by means of intensive relationships with data sources. Data are obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that children could develop language intelligence through read aloud activities in KB Wadas Kelir Purwokerto. The read aloud activities have four types. First, read aloud activities in understanding letters produces the ability of children to understand the symbols and sounds of letters. Second, read aloud activities of words understanding is giving a results in children's ability to understand the meaning of words, so that children understand the use of words. Third, read aloud activities in understanding sentences is giving result in the ability to absorb information to have an appropriate understanding of sentence structure. While read aloud activities of understanding of the story produces the ability of children who able to communicate and to get the insight which be able to interact with the other person. The success of developing language intelligence in early childhood through read aloud activities in KB Wadas Kelir Purwokerto can be seen from both oral and written language and the characters of children who love books.
