Therefore, this study aims to determine the reason for the gross motor skill of obese children must be increased and how the teachers attempts to improve gross motor skill of obese children at six Yogyakarta Kindergartens. This research method used is descriptive qualitative. Research data source are documents and resource persons. While data collection techniques use observation, documentation and interview. Data analysis techniques were conducted inductively namely data reduction, data display, and verification. The results of this study indicate that: 1. The reason teachers improve the gross motor skill of obese children at six Yogyakarta Kindergartens because the gross motor skill of obese children such as running, jumping, climbing, hanging, swinging, swimming, and climbing on the board not maximal. In addition, the gross motor activity takes a long time compared to his friends, so the teachers assesses the gross motor skill of obese children at the level of “starting to develop”. 2. The teacher’s efforts to improve the gross motor skill of obese children are carried out through providing motivation to children in each gross motor activity specifically, providing opportunities for children to do gross motor activities outdoors with the supervision of teacher, planting brave attitudes in gross motor activities by praying beforehand, repetition of gross motor activities at regular intervals, involving children to participate in gross motor competitions, adding physical activity outside learning.
