One of the causes is the weakening of character values in society. One place of character building is in educational institutions or schools. Through ideas, breakthroughs and principals' program, it is expected that character education in schools will be well realized. Therefore required a leader who has the ability to qualify for the formation of character in school successfully. One of the necessary forms of leadership is transformational leadership. The research is a qualitative research that is by describing the findings data in the field that interptretasikan with words, charts, and tables. Data is generated through the process of observation, interviews, and documentation obtained from competent persons with the necessary data. Then the data is analyzed and tested its validity through triangulation of data based on source and method, so that can be drawn a conclusion. The result of the transformational leadership of the madrasah head in constructing the character of the students at MI Ma'arif Bego Depok Sleman shows that the head of the madrasah has a transformational leader attitude. First, idealized influence is to have ideas and breakthroughs in building the character of students and then pass on the idea to be done teachers and students in realizing the vision and mission of the madrasah. Secondly, inspiration motivation is the head of a madrasah motivating teachers and students by setting an example for them in carrying out their duties and responsibilities. Third, the intellectual stimulation of the head of the madrasah facilitates and encourages teachers and students to always improve their quality and self-competence. Fourth, individual consideration is the personal approach of madrasah heads to teachers and students so as to create a harmonious and comfortable atmosphere in the madrasah environment and more easily solve problems. The impact of the transformational leadership of Madrasah headmasters in MI Ma'arif Bego Depok Sleman towards the character of the students is the harmony among the madrasahs, the condition of the clean, beautiful and comfortable madrasah environment and the madrasah is growing. The supporting factors of success are education and personal character of madrasah head, adequate facilities, parent role, teacher and competent employee, and supportive madrasah environment. Conversely, the inhibiting factor is the proximity of madrasah heads with madrasahs, some facilities and infrastructure need attention, discipline of teachers and madrasah employees and the number of madrasah students.
