In addition, the importance of textbooks, namely student thematic books as complementary books for students whose character values are not yet known religious and nationalist character values. The purposes of this study are (1) to determine the value of religious characters contained in the thematic book of grade 6 students theme 2 unity in the differences published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in the revised edition of 2018 and (2) to determine the value of nationalist characters contained in the book. thematic 6th grade students theme 2 unity in diversity published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in the revised 2018 edition. This study uses qualitative research methods with the type of library research (library research). Data collection in the study was carried out using documentation techniques. The validity of the data uses the researcher's persistence technique, and the data analysis technique used is content analysis. The results showed that the students' thematic books contained religious and nationalist character values. The religious character values found in the students' thematic books were 36 values spread across all sub-themes, subthemes 1, 2, 3 as well as in the additional section I Love Reading. The details of the findings of religious character values obtained are 16 values in sub-theme 1, 9 values in sub-theme 2, 9 values in sub-theme 3, and 2 values in the Aku Cinta Reading section. As for the findings of nationalist character values, 53 nationalist character values were found spread across all sub-themes, sub-themes 1, 2, 3, as well as in the additional section I Love Reading. The details of the findings of the nationalist character values obtained are 22 values in sub-theme 1, 12 in subtheme 2, 15 in sub-theme 3, and four additional points in Aku Cinta Baca.
