Librarianship has been regarded as a feminized profession when women have consistently made up a large majority of librarians and their characters are considered suitable for library work. Although women are majority, they encounter a number of barriers at the workplace. Beside office jobs, female librarians have extra burden of family responsibilities that constantly consumed a large proportion of their time. They also find the lack of facility to take care their children or family when they are working. One serious issue is sexual harassment the female librarians had encountered on the job. In addition, the application of information and communication technology has brought a gap between female and male librarians. The barriers to women?s careers mentioned in the literature are interrelated social, organizational and personal factors. To improve this condition, the change of system and culture of organization, and men?s participation are needed.
