The purpose of this study is to examine the space of gender stratification in social circles, starting from the requirements of dowry, factors that cause the unattractiveness of fulfilling the applicable rules and implications for gender in the tradition of dowry. Therefore, the researcher formulated three problem formulations to answer in this study, namely: 1). How are the dynamics of the tradition of dowry in Tanete, Gowa Regency. 2). What is the form of gender stratification in the tradition of dowry in Tanete, Gowa Regency. 3). What are the implications of the tradition of dowry in Tanete, Gowa Regency. This research method is qualitative research or field research. The main problem in this research is how the meaning of dowry money in Bugis traditional marriage and the social status of women in Bugis traditional marriage in Tannete, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. This research aims to find out the meaning of dowry money in Bugis traditional marriage and the social status of women in Bugis traditional marriage in Tannete, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. This type of research is qualitative using a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques in this research are observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this research are Bugis traditional marriage in Tannete, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, the meaning of dowry money goes beyond the financial aspect alone. For the data analysis stage, the researcher used the theory of sexual stratification constructed by Collins from the perspective of Sigmund Freud and Max Weber. Freud's work has been interpreted as a general theory related to individual psychological functions. This study found that gender stratification in the form of dowry money has profound meaning and reflects several important dimensions in the cultural structure of Bugis society. First, the dynamics of dowry money are a serious problem due to the negative impacts it causes. Second, dowry money, while respecting women, worsens the situation for low-income families. Third, dowry money plays a vital role in maintaining cultural heritage. The practice of giving dowry money reflects how cultural values and traditions are maintained and preserved. The social status of Bugis women in bringing dowry money is based on their noble bloodline or their high level of education.
