Stress is unavoidable in human life, especially for contract employees, including the uncertainty of extending work contracts, termination of employment any time, differences in facilities etc. Optimism is one of the strongest factors to improve individual coping strategies. This study used 100 research subjects with the criteria of working as contract employees, age 20-35 years old, and working in Jogjakarta. The data collection instrument is Likert questionnaire using the Brief COPE scale with reliability = 0.813 and optimism scale with reliability 0.863. Hypothesis testing using the Pearson product moment obtained a Pearson correlation of 0.357 with sig. 000 {\ensuremath{<}} p(sig.) 0.05 which indicates that the hypothesis is accepted, so there is a relationship between optimism and coping strategies for contract employees with an effective contribution (R Square) of 12.7\% and 87.3\% influenced by other factors.} }
