The success of an educational institution can be seen through the leadership or management of the principal. School principals who can apply good self management in leadership will be well responsible, able to make decisions, and self motivated so as to be able to motivate all of their subordinates to jointly achieve the goals of predetermined educational institutions. This study aims to determine: 1) The urgency of implementing self management in educational institutions 2) The Implementation of self management in the leadership of educational institutions 3) The supporting and inhibiting factors for the application of self management in leadership. As for this research using descriptive qualitative research, with informants from school principal, teachers, and administrative staff. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Researchers used source triangulation, technical triangulation, and time triangulation to achieve data validity. The results showed that: 1) The urgency of implementing self management in leadership at SMP IT LHI Yogyakarta is the main thing underlying in realizing the goals of educational institutions in order to achieve optimal quality of succes of an educational institution The proper and effective self management ability of the principal of SMP IT LHI Yogyakarta is capable of seeking to improve the quality of human resources in the educational institution he leads. 2) The implementation of self management in the leadership of educational institutions at SMP IT LHI Yogyakarta is realized in improving tteh quality of existing human resources. In practice principal leadership is able to build a shared vision and goals, foster motivation to grow towards achieving goals, build character and integrity, develop communication within the team, and empower the team to generate synergy. 3) Supporting and inhibiting factors for the application of self management in the leadership of educational institutions at SMP IT LHI Yogyakarta. The supporting factors are the work environment, goals, self control form god, and the rules set at school.
