abstract: Throughout human life, both past and present, there are always moral problems that always receive serious attention, so that a mental and moral revolution is needed to be able to improve these conditions. Al-Quran is a holy book full of concepts and moral values. One of the contents of the Qur'an that is loaded with concepts and moral values is a story. Among the many stories in the Qur'an, namely the story of Dzulqarnain, in the Qur'an is told in Surat al-Kahfi, verses 83-98. the figure of Dzulqarnain is described as a servant who has been given a gift by God in the form of great power and God gave him a way to achieve it. In addition, as a pious, wise, and moral servant, he did not oppress a people by applying a fair policy. He punishes the oppressors and gives goodness to those who believe and are good. This research wants to explore the moral message of the story of Dzulqarnain using two tafsir books, namely Tafsir al-Aisar by Abu Bakar Jabir al-Jazairi and Tafsir al-Mishbah by M. Quraish Shihab.
From the presentation of the background above, the purpose of this research is to know the figure of Dzulqarnain and the moral message from his story as far as viewed from Tafsir al-Aisar and al-Mishbah as well as the contextualization of his moral message in the present. This research is a library research and is qualitative in nature. The data collection technique used is the retention of library materials, both in the form of primary data sources, namely the books Tafsir al-Aisar and al Mishbah, as well as secondary data sources. The applied data processing is by using descriptive and comparative methods. The author analyzes the interpretations of Abu Bakar Jabir al-Jazairi and M. Quraish Shihab, then conclusions can be drawn about the similarities and differences.
The results obtained from this research are as follows: The figure of Dzulqarnain Abu Bakar Jabir Al-Jazairi is more inclined to identify Dzulqarnain as Al-Iskandar al-Himyari At-Thuba'iy, while in Tafsir al Mishbah it is more inclined to the figure of the Great Persian Emperor Cyrus or Cyrus the Great. Even so, they both agreed that the figure of Dzulqarnain is a person who has a noble and wise personality. In the interpretation of M. Quraish Shihab and Abu Bakar Jabir al-Jazairi tell the noble and wise personality of Dzulqarnain, it includes fair and wise, hardworking, knowledgeable, helpful, dedicated, educational, faithful, pious, humble, and amar good and bad.
